WORSHIP MINISTRIES
Children and Families Ministries:
Welcome to all the children worshiping with us today! We are so glad you are here with us. You are welcome to stay with your family in worship or to take advantage of one of our other child-friendly options.
- Busy Bags are available in the back of the sanctuary, filled with books, small toys and coloring supplies. Our ushers would be happy to help you find a bag.
- Nursery care is available during both services in the nursery on the lower level of the church. Gretchen Frey, our professional Childcare Attendant, welcomes children through age 3 in the nursery.
- Church School: This month the children are learning that stories in Genesis help us understand God’s plan for God’s people. Today they learned about Noah. Talking with your child about this story will help reinforce what was learned in Sunday School.
A part of the Worship Experience is literally “HEARING THE WORD!”
Become an important part of the Sound Ministry Team by volunteering as a once-a-month sound system operator during the 11:00 service on Sunday mornings. No experience is required. You can “sit in” with the sound booth operators on Sundays as an observer until you feel comfortable on your own. Please contact Judy Allen at judy.allen@fumcbellevue.org or 425-823-4007. Or you can speak with one of the sound operators for more information.
We’re looking for volunteers to make and present PowerPoint slides for the 11:00a.m. Worship Service. Some PowerPoint experience and having a current PowerPoint program on your home computer would be helpful. Please contact Judy Allen at judy.allen@fumcbellevue.org or call 425-823-4007 if this is a ministry you would be interested in.

Book Discussion Group to resume on September 19
The new fall season of Book Group begins on Monday, September 19, with a discussion of The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks, by Rebecca Skloot. This nonfiction book tells the story of the famous HeLa cells taken without the knowledge of the donor, Henrietta Lacks, and used for medical research since the ‘50’s. Skloot not only traces the resulting scientific advances but also finds out who this woman Henrietta Lacks actually was. She gets to know the Lacks family and explores the ethical issues surrounding the use of this woman’s tissue. Book group meets on the third Monday of the month at 7:15 pm. At our September meeting, we will be determining our schedule of books and session leaders for the 2011-12 season.
Come Sing With Usat Sunrise Senior Living Center on the 3rd Sunday each month. Trina McCarrell and Nancy Berry lead a brief chapel service which includes some old favorite hymns. Our next service is today, September 18 at 11:00 AM. Sunrise is located at 15928 NE 8th (just past Crossroads Mall).

Good Start Back to School - Thank you!
Thank you so much! Our congregation contributed $900 worth of supplies to the Good Start Back to School project. What a difference you made in their lives! Congregation for Kids volunteers prepared an additional 115 backpacks for students who enroll later in the year, for a grand total this year of 1762 backpacks and supplies.

We are helping to build a 4-bedroom house. The next work party is Saturday, October 15th. Work generally lasts from 9 am to 4 pm. A sign-up sheet is located on the bulletin board across from the church office, along with an information sheet. Workers must be at least 16 years old and do not need to know anything about construction. For more information or to make a donation, please call Linda Harold at 206-331-3835.
TENT CITY 4 is currently residing at the Jewish Synagogue just south of the Crossroads Shopping Center. John McGuire organized a dinner for them in the month of August and has another dinner scheduled for September 26. If you would like to help with cooking, serving or donating food, please be in touch with John. They have an ongoing need for coffee, laundry detergent, personal care items, milk and lunch supplies. With 100 people in residence they use a lot of these items. Can you imagine waking up on a cold, damp morning and not having a hot cup of coffee to warm your bones? There is a box in the main office for your donations.
A Simple Cup of Coffee
Mary’s Place (Church of Mary Magdalene) and Tent City 4 are both in great need of coffee. Can you help? Bring a large can of regular coffee to the church office and put it in the bright “yellow” box marked “COFFEE.” Thank you.
